I have found a place of breathtaking beauty and wonder and autumn and mountains and light fading, a jumble of houses spilling down a narrow valley, walls steep and green and so very dark green. I have found a castle at the top of this village, tumbled stone and partial walls standing. I have found a place to write atop this castle over this village in this autumn valley daylight fading. And there are swifts in the air in a madcap dance, spinning and circling, suddenly up and suddenly down, grey clouds above, a bluecast sunset beyond and I look out and say thank you to no one in particular or maybe to everyone-everything in particular and feel this place settle over my heart, providing one more layer to all the things I have ever loved. I am made of this stuff, face flush fingers cold joint creak breath deep. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
